Paul Dailing is the new editor of Chicago Lawyer.

You know what they say about change — it’s inevitable and brings opportunity. The changes you see in the October issue of Chicago Lawyer are the culmination of a team effort to find new and interesting ways to tell the stories within the legal profession. It’s an opportunity for us to shine a light on you and help spread the word about all the newsworthy things that are happening.

This particular issue, a coveted annual edition, features our 2016 Jury Verdict Reporter Settlements Report. Working with Peter Mierzwa, Group Vice President for the Law Bulletin Publishing Company’s Legal Information Group, and Jury Verdict Reporter Editor John Kirkton, we’ve compiled this differently than in prior years, showing a broader cross section of the last year’s settlements and presenting the context for these facts and figures in a more informative, visual fashion. More than 100 firms appear on these pages, featuring more than $1.1 billion in Chicago-area settlements. We cannot thank John and Peter enough for the hours they spent on this project.

Some new regular features you’ll find include: a Legal Scene photo gallery highlighting the legal community’s gatherings, events and celebrations across the state; In Summation, a feature on a lawyer committed to a cause in the community; and a redesigned News and Notes section.

To lead all of this and create new content for the Lawyer and Chicagolawyermagazine.com, we decided it was time to hire an editor dedicated to the effort. Paul Dailing, formerly assistant editor at our sister publication Leading Lawyers, joined us last month. Paul is a veteran journalist, who has served as an adjunct faculty member in journalism at Loyola University and was an editor and reporter for several suburban news outlets.

We’re grateful to Marc Karlinsky, who oversaw the Lawyer for the past year while doing double duty as editor of the Daily Law Bulletin. He will be the first to admit he is excited to now be focusing solely on the daily paper and its website.

I hope you like what you see. A great big thank you to Maria Marquez, our design director, who made our ideas come to life in a bolder, bigger way than we could have imagined.

Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to succeed in the legal profession. If you have any ideas or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at 312-644-7005 or glamb@lbpc.com.
